Some unmissable things to do in Malaga, no matter how you like to spend your time
As part of the famous Costa del Sol, Malaga is a very popular holiday destination with thousands of people visiting every year for a short vacation or as part of a longer Andalusian adventure. With sandy beaches, traditional foods and transport links to the majority of Andalusia, it’s no surprise that Malaga has become so popular over the years, and it could be the perfect place to go if you’re looking for things to do in Ronda or nearby. Are you just looking to relax?
Always at the top of a ‘things to do in Malaga’ list is visiting the beach. Malagueta beach is one of the most popular beaches in Malaga due to its proximity to the city centre. This man-made stretch of sand is also right next to the Malaga port meaning you can spend your days going from laying on the sand to sampling some of the local foods one of the many restaurants there. If just sitting on the sand and enjoying the sunshine is not for you, there is a variety of water sports and boat trips also on offer along the beaches of Malaga.
Want to take in a bit of history?
Malaga is one of the oldest cities in the world because of this it has a rich and varied history. Throughout history, Malaga has been ruled by the Romans, the Phoenicians, Moorish and Christians and you can see their influences all over the city. A prime example of this is the castle of Gibralfaro and Alcazaba, which perfectly demonstrates the influence the Moorish rule had on the city’s landscape.
To get an insight into another part of Malaga’s history you have to visit Malaga Cathedral. Originally a mosque before being converted into a cathedral, this building is one of the iconic landmarks of Malaga so of course it is considered one of the essential things to do in Malaga and should not be missed.

Because of the rich history of Malaga, many artists have lived and worked here. The most famous of them being Pablo Picasso, who was born in Malaga. With the variety of artists who have settled here, Malaga is a cultural and artistic hub. So, what better place to get out of the sun and browse some amazing artworks than Malaga? From Malaga Museum and the Carmen Thyssen Museum, to the Pompidou Centre and the Picasso Museum, you’ll be spoilt for choice!
